As part of the Coca-Cola x The Olympics #IBelongHere campaign, I was asked along with four other artists to create a flag that reflects an Olympic value. I was chosen to represent the value of "Excellence” for the campaign.

I’ve depicted an iconic Olympic Ring with a javelin thrower inside as a tribute to the legendary Latvian athlete Janis Lusis, who is aiming to “hit the target” or “fulfil the purpose” of his hard training and sacrifice to the sport. There are the personifications of Arete (a concept in ancient Greek thought that refers to “excellence” or “moral virtue”) on both sides of the ring, who hold the symbol of triumph - branches of laurel wreath for the struggle and effort of the person trying to achieve perfection.

Above the ring are 8 stars, of whom one is falling. Stars are also symbols of excellence, though one must be careful not to become too proud or intoxicated with human praise, lest they might face the fate of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun.
